Anyway, I wasn't going to comment on any of that because, frankly, I'm sick of it. It's gotten to the point where I turn off (or mute) any news story on the subject, and that includes the so-called (stupidly named) "Beer Summit" that happened yesterday. With that having happened, maybe it will all go away now?
Not if the people involved, even peripherally, keep shooting their mouths off. The one that got me actually writing about this is Gates' daughter, Elizabeth. I know nothing about this woman, but if this statement is indicative of her personality, I wouldn't want to know her anyway. She said, in her Daily Beast column:
"As our family rounded the corner to the White House library and I first caught sight of Sergeant Crowley’s lovely 14-year old daughter—who was wearing an appropriately heavy and charmingly untrained amount of green eyeliner on her lower lashes—we were instantly transported from the post-racial myth of America in 2008 to the reality of 2009."
Give me a break. Get off of your high horse and come down to join the rest of us "common" people. I love Isaac Chotiner's take on the whole thing (that's the link above). Just what the world needs: another elitist who thinks she's better than everyone else, criticizing the make-up and fashion sense of a 14-year old girl.
You're going to get a nose-bleed with it sticking up in the air like that.
