Merry Christmas Everybody

I want to wish everybody a truly wonderful Christmas, those of you who celebrate it. And if you don't, may the good spirit of the season affect you anyway.

It's been almost two months since I've re-started this blog, and I've been fairly regular with it. I have you readers to thank for some of that, as you've made it worthwhile. I do plan on continuing it well into the new year and beyond.

Thank you for your love and support, and just your comments if nothing else. I'm always happy to hear from you.

In the meantime, regular programming returns tomorrow with the weekly book review. I hope you enjoy it.

For now, you can enjoy two hours of a Yule log burning!

Ok, it's just a log in a fireplace, but I think it works the same.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

Merry Christmas, Everybody

It's that time of year again. The fluffy whiteness outside, the warmth of family and friends, the presents under the tree.

It's Christmas!!!

While Christmas is a religious holiday for some, for others it's a state of mind, or a cultural thing. I have a friend who is Moslem. Her family's been in Canada since the 50s and her husband's family has been in the country since the 20s. They celebrate all of the secular aspects of Christmas, though, including the presents and the "get together with family on the day" because when they moved to Canada, they wanted to fit in with the rest of Canadian society. They even go to the mosque on Christmas Eve (or Day, can't remember which, and besides, they're in Hawaii this year, so they're not doing that).

To all of my friends and family who may be reading this (and I'm posting this today because I figure nobody will be reading this, or Facebook, tomorrow), I wish you a wonderful Christmas and all the best in the new year. However I know you, you are very special to me.

Merry Christmas, Everyone

We're heading up to Chicago early for Christmas this year, so I just wanted to wish all of my many readers (Hi, George!) a very merry Christmas and all the best in the new year.  Of course, I will be posting between Christmas and New Year's Day, but I thought I'd bring all of the good wishes into one post.  That way, I can be cranky the rest of the time (you know it's true).

Everybody's heard about the various attempts to take Christmas out of the mainstream.  All of the "you can't call it a *Christmas* tree..it's a *Holiday* tree!" controversies, and things like that.  I sometimes wonder if, within a decade or two, Christmas won't be as public a holiday as it used to be.  It will always be celebrated, of course, but there seems to be an attempt to take Christmas out of the public venue.

So it really heartens me to see things like the fact that radio stations still give over their airwaves for Christmas music for 24 hours (and some for a couple of weeks) and the many Christmas messages being put out by various companies.  And the radio stations don't just play secular Christmas songs either, but religious ones as well.

Whatever the case, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and I will see you on the 27th!  I'll be en route on the 26th, so won't be posting then either.
