The trials and tribulations of the PS3

or "what happens when an attempted update continually crashes your system?"

I've been 2 weeks without my PS3.  Not that I've really noticed, since I don't really play games on it.  But I do like to watch some Blu-Ray movies on it, and I have a couple of PS3-only franchises that I love.  So getting rid of it is not an option.

Early last week, I turned on the PS3 for the first time in a couple of months.  The 3.30 update was out and it wanted to download it and install it.  I'm like "sure, whatever" and went ahead.

I sat myself down for a bit of a long haul.  In the past, system updates have taken multiple attempts to install.  Most of the time it took 2 or 3 tries before finally succeeding.  The first time this happened, I panicked and checked the web, until I saw some people say that this happened to them a lot too.

Review - Uncharted 2

Wow.  Uncharted 2, available only for the PS3, has to be one of the best games of 2009.  Admittedly, I didn't play that many games, but it is so unbelievably awesome that I can't see any other game beating it.  Not even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  Take the combination of wonderful graphics, excellent gameplay, and a story that rivals many movies, and you've got yourself a blisteringly good time.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - First Impressions

*Note:  This game is only available on the PS3*

After playing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I knew that I would be picking Uncharted 2: Among Thieves up quite soon after it came out.  Only the fact that I play games singularly and I was in the middle of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 kept me from getting this one when it first came out.  I bought it last week before I left, so I haven't had a whole lot of time to get into the story.  But I have played it long enough to know that this game will rival, if not surpass, the original.  And it's even got multiplayer too!  The first game didn't have that.

Now Playing - Infamous for the PS3

There are just so many games I want to get this year (guess that's why they call it the Christmas Season, even though it's just now Halloween!).  In the run-up to Modern Warfare 2, I've gotten a couple of them out of the way and I'm now playing another one I've been wanting to play since this summer but was busy with other games (because, you know, I can only play one game at a time).

The game's called Infamous, and it's quite a cool game. 

Playstation Home - Thoughts?

Just curious if anybody has any opinions or experience with Playstation Home?  It's the new "3D social gaming community that allows PLAYSTATION®3 users to meet, chat, plan, and launch into games together. You can create your own custom avatar, decorate your personal apartment, play mini-games, shop, watch videos, attend special events, and much more" that Sony created to go with their Playstation 3 and Playstation Network.  I'm assuming you can't get on it with a Playstation 2, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, we have both an Xbox 360 and a Playstation 3, but we only had one network cable and it was a bitch to get behind there and switch them, so I have played almost exclusively with the Xbox (though the Playstation was a lifesaver when my Xbox suffered the RROD (Red Rings of Death) and I was without it for a couple of weeks).

So we finally bought a network cable splitter and I now have both of them hooked up to the net.  I was playing around with the Playstation and saw the "Home" icon and it rang a bell with me.  So I installed it and got started with it.  It looks pretty cool.
