Wasn't pulling up to the wrong side of the gas pump!
No, it was me not realizing that, to go into reverse, you have to lift the "shift ring" before pulling the gear shift to the left. Otherwise, you just go into 1st gear. Thankfully, was being very careful with it, so it didn't go into the wall when I eased off the clutch and started moving forward.
But it did take me 5 minutes to get out of my parking spot today, which included running back upstairs for the manual.
