Modern Warfare 2 "Stimulus" Map Pack 1

I bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the day it came out, and I loved the multiplayer more than the single player game.  It's so cool going online and engaging people from all over the world in breath-taking combat on a bunch of different maps (some from the single-player game and some original).  In fact, the single-player game took a long time for me to finish because I would play for a bit and then go on to the multiplayer.

Of course, like any FPS (first-person shooter) game with multiplayer capability, Activision & Infinity Ward are going to issue at least one (and probably more) package of new multiplayer maps.  The first pack, creatively called "Stimulus Map Pack 1," came out yesterday.

Those of you who have been following my blog know that we don't have a TV right now, so I haven't had the opportunity to buy and play on these maps.  Not only that, but I'm not even sure I'm going to when I do have the opportunity.  Sure, they'd be fun to play on for a while, and the newness factor would always be cool.

However, this map pack costs 1200 Microsoft Points!  That's 15 dollars!  For five maps (which is admittedly more than most).  The problem is, two of these maps are redone from the first Modern Warfare game.  That means that you really only get three new maps.  Many map packs are 800 MS points, which isn't too bad.

Meanwhile, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 maps are reportedly going to be free if you bought the original game (as opposed to buying a used copy).

Also, as the OXM podcast pointed out last week, Activision is going to have two packs that are exclusive (at least temporarily) to the Xbox 360, and the second one is liable to be 1200 points too.  Thus, for half the price of the game, you're going to be getting about 10 maps (and, if they follow the first Map Pack, only 6 will be original).

That price point just annoys me enough that I may not buy the pack.  I haven't been playing MW2 that often recently, having been wrapped up in Dragon Age: Origins.  I now have Assassin's Creed 2 waiting for me when the TV is back.  So how much will I really be playing?

I know it's only $5 more, but that's 1/2 again the cost of the Map Packs for the previous CoD games.

Activision is going to be raking in the dough on this anyway, as MW2 has been a huge seller.  There have been around 6 million people playing this game at least once on Xbox Live.  If even 20% of these people buy the pack, that's going to be an outrageous amount of money.

At this point, I don't think I'll be buying them.  Will it be worth it to you?  That's your decision, of course.  But I'd love to know what you think of this.  Horribly overpriced?  Or worth the money?

You decide.
