Obligatory Video Game Post - Join Me on XBox Live!

A little more about the current me, rather than the past me. I've always loved video games, but it's just been in the last few years that I've become an avid gamer again. The wife knows me too well. Every time she suggests we get something (because she thinks I would like it), I poo-poo the idea of getting it, then fall in love with it when we do finally get it (and we usually do). The latest toy is the iPhone, but a lot of times, it's video games.

It all started with the Gamecube, many years ago (seven now, I think). Then the PS2, then the Xbox (bought just because she had mistakenly bought me the Xbox version of a game I wanted on PC...simple solution: get an Xbox!)

The only thing this really hasn't worked on is the PS3, at least not yet. Thankfully, it's an awesome Blu-Ray player too, but I haven't taken to the game system as much as I have others. Don't get me wrong, I go through my periods. I bought Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and played the hell out of it until I was finished with it. But it didn't replace my Xbox 360 in my affections.

I jumped in the timeline because I want to talk about the 360. This is the system that I have grown to love when I really initially resisted. It introduced me to online gaming, and I have so many games for it (and have sold off even more) that they're really cluttering up the living room. The graphics on the "next-gen" systems (both 360 and PS3) are so incredible that sometimes I'm completely blown away by them and have to drink them in before actually playing the games. The first time I loaded up Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, I had to stop and realize "I'm in a freakin' Star Wars movie!"

I'm mostly into shooters and a few sports games. Just bought (well, my wife just picked up for me, bless her heart) NCAA Football 10 and I can't wait to start playing it. There's nothing like taking the reins of your old college team and taking them to victory! I don't play sports games online for some reason, but one thing I'm often online for is shooters. My current favourite, where you can always find me if I'm playing online, is Call of Duty: World at War. I love playing that, and all of the previous Call of Duty games, online. Ah, the Internet. A place where you can meet thousands of new people. And then kill them. Again and again. Or, in my case, be killed by them.

Anyway, if you'd like to look me up for a game, my Gamertag is hist. Send me a friend request. If I already know you, maybe I'll break my rule against playing one-on-one games online (like football). The main reason I don't do that is because of all the idiots out there who cheat or leave the game if they're losing.

Yes, I know many of you will see this as a complete waste of time. But is it any more of a "waste of time" than any other hobby? As long as you're having fun doing it, that's the most important thing.

  1. I am determined to get you playing online computer games. Like World of Warcraft. Someday.

  2. Nope, will never happen. :) I don't want to pay a monthly fee for one game, and I have a lot more access to my TV for video games than I do the computer for gaming on here.
